Earlier this month, we proclaimed our strategic vision and product roadmap for bringing data socialization and greater collaboration to the Monarch family of self-service data prep solutions. You may be thinking, what does that mean for me?

Data socialization is the next stage in the evolution of self-service data prep. Future versions of Monarch will combine all of the current self-service data prep features you know and love with the key attributes common to social media platforms. Every individual in your company will be able to use Monarch to search for, share and reuse prepared, managed data to achieve true enterprise collaboration and agility for faster and better decision making. New features will include a centralized data catalog, enhanced data quality and governance, cloud-based data prep, machine learning, and so much more.

Customer Fun Fact:

Professional services giant KPMG recently spoke at the Tableau Conference in Austin, Texas, about how its combined use of Monarch and Tableau has cut a 12-week analysis process down to five weeks!

KPMG’s Healthcare and Life Sciences Practice, in particular, has been using Monarch for more than three years to expedite assessments of its clients’ financial performance, analyze more data, and provide far more informed and precise client reports. The team used to struggle with a hefty, manual data prep process that was based on only 30 days’ worth of data to help healthcare providers identify operational shortcomings and determine performance improvements. Now, Monarch allows KPMG to effortlessly take a year’s worth of transactional data, including the hard-to-access 835 Payer Remittance information, and quickly prepare it for visualization in Tableau.

Event Recap:
UNH Hack-a-Thon

It’s official – Donald Trump is our new president-elect. We had a glimpse into the future when, last month, students at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) predicted a similar outcome based on their use of Datawatch Monarch and IBM Watson Analytics.

During a 20-hour hack-a-thon, the winning team of four undergraduate students used Monarch to combine U.S. Census data, state polling figures and information from the 2012 presidential election, and then uploaded the data into IBM Watson to perform an automated, predictive analysis. The result was a compelling case for how Donald Trump could win the popular vote this presidential election. And although Hillary captured the majority of the popular vote by a slim margin (207,638 votes), these students showed how the proper analysis of data can accurately provide insight into our country’s greatest news events.

Best of all, the winning team members immediately took advantage of an all-expenses paid trip to IBM’s World of Watson conference in Las Vegas to present their findings.
