British Standards Institution (BSI) Appoints Datawatch's Gareth Horton to Technical Committee IST/41

Horton to Serve as UK Expert on ISO/IEC JTC1/SC34 Working Group 4 Responsible for Maintenance of Office Open XML

Chelmsford, MA — June 2, 2009 - Datawatch Corporation (NASDAQ-CM: DWCH), a leader in Enterprise Information Management (EIM) and BI, today announced the appointment of its Senior Product Manager, Gareth Horton, to the British Standards Institution (BSI) Technical Committee IST/41. As a co-opted expert member of the committee, he has also been nominated to the Working Group (WG4) of ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 34, which is responsible for the ongoing maintenance of IS29500 (Office Open XML).

Horton will be serving as Principal UK Expert at the upcoming meeting of WG4 in Copenhagen next month. He will be assisting other UK and international experts in detecting and resolving defects in OOXML and making improvements to the specification. Horton has a particular interest in SpreadsheetML, the area of OOXML concerned with spreadsheets. He became an expert in this area after implementing OOXML support in the Monarch family of products. The project launched in February 2007 with the release of Monarch Version 9, timed to support the new Office Open XML formats introduced in Microsoft Office 2007.

"This is a major accomplishment for Gareth; his technical skills will be a valuable asset to the work around the OOXML standard," said John Kitchen, senior vice president and CMO of Datawatch. "Gareth is a vital part of our team and together we acknowledge the importance of finding and resolving defects in SpreadsheetML, as well as improving the specification over time. Gareth's new appointment will undoubtedly enhance the benefits for Datawatch developers and customers as well as the wider community of consumers of the OOXML standard."

This appointment further reinforces Datawatch's long history of delivering practical business intelligence solutions tightly integrated with Microsoft products. For example, Datawatch's Monarch Report Mining solutions allow business users to easily extract, analyze and export data from existing reports-without programming-into a variety of formats, particularly Microsoft Office Excel. Datawatch products have supported OOXML file formats since early 2007, allowing users to easily extract data from a variety of different systems and formats and consume the information in an open, internationally recognized, standard format.

Datawatch delivers immediate business value to customers by leveraging the time and effort companies have already invested in creating reports and business documents. By unlocking the vast amount of critical data buried in these traditionally static sources, Datawatch helps enterprise companies and small businesses address the immediate need for BI at a fraction of the time, cost and complexity of traditional BI solutions. Datawatch is a Microsoft High Potential Managed ISV Partner as well as a Gold Certified Partner and was one of the first ISVs to support OOXML. The company is also a member of the Microsoft Interop Vendor Alliance.
